there is another option.
An addition to the honey pot.

You can give the Honey-Pot email field a 'Custom Validation'.
All forms with a filled Honey-Pot email field will then not be accepted and will be sent back with an error message.

This could be your quickest solution.

we will add the honeypot with its hidden email as a new security feature in the form configuration.

There is already a similar earlier issue about this:

But now it's explicitly about the honeypot.
I have created a development issue in the feature wish list:
