Heads Up: This is the documentation for Joomla 3

We recommend using the Documentation for Joomla 4!

It is more up-to-date and extensive. Most of it applies retrospectively to Joomla 3.

Joomla 5 Notice

We are pleased to announce that as of January 29, 2024, all of our Joomla extensions are compatible with Joomla 5.

For all who are still updateing from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4: Joomla 4 Migration instructions are available here:

There is now a separate Documentation for Visforms for Joomla 4 and for Visforms for Joomla 5!

Getting Started

This feature is part of the Visforms Subscription and not available in the free Visforms version..

We propose reading the documentation from the beginning, starting with the System requirements. We will not repeat concepts and explanations made in previous parts of the documentation, here.

Please make sure, that you have installed your Visforms Subscription and that it has a miminum version of 3.0.0.

This will add a new field type (location) to your Visforms installation, which you can use immediately with your forms. The new field type can be selected in the field configuration option "type" just like any other field type.

You need a Google Maps Api Key

If you want to use the map function of the location field, you need a Google Maps API Key. The key must include the following Google Javascript API's, which will be included, if you select the Maps and the Places Platforms in the registration process for the Google Maps Api Key.

  • Google Maps JavaScriptAPI
  • Google Maps Geocoding API
  • Google Places API Web Services

Set Google Maps API Key Option in Visforms

After you have created a Google Maps API Key you must store it with the Visforms global options. Go to the Visforms Dashboard and click the "Options" tile or the options button in the upper right corner in order to open the global Visforms Options screen. Go to the "Advanced" tab and enter your key in the "Your Google Maps API Key" option. Save your changes.
