backend looking strange was created by Damston
Hi,
I just installed visforms using the built-in joomla installer and the link to the archive on the website.
Everything went ok, but the backend now looks like this:

or

I feel something went wrong... I'm using Joomla 2.5.20 and visforms 2.1.1
Any idea what I should do? I'm eager to test visforms but I can't figure anything out right now.

Thank you

Hi Damston,

thanks for the information.
As in the last month I've heard of two or three people with the same problem, I have to figure where it comes from in the first place.
Am I right, that you have set the backend language of your website to french?
What you see are the Language tags which are not translated properly.
Actually when a component doesn't come with translation files of the choosen backend language (French in your case), Joomla! should use the default (English) translations.
It looks as if this process doesn't work properly and you see the language tags instead of the English translations. The strange thing is, that this obviously does not happen on all websites, that use another backend language than English or German but only on some (very few). And I do not know yet which ones or why. But it looks as if it happens more often with the French language.

Could you please first test, if the translations work, when you switch backend language to English and let me know the result.
And maybe I could take a look at the backend myself (my mail is contact@vi-solutions.de). There is a language debug option which could give me some more information.

Regards,
Aicha

Sorry I didn't see this topic. I created another topic about the same issue. I use the Chinese as backend language. I tried that I changed all the language to English. But the same issue.

It is very strange. Actually I install the v2.1.1 on my localhost, the Chinese backend language, but it is fine. When I put it on my website. the issue happened.

I used v2.0.3, it is good.

thanks,

Hi davorsuker,

thanks for the additional information!
Is it only the backend language of the component or the frontend language too. (If the frontend is effected the text "Required" would not be translated but you would see COM_VISFORMS_REQUIRED instead.)

I'll delete the dublicate post.

Aicha

I check the "required". Both of my frontend and backend are Chinese. I set "Position of 'Required' text" to "At the top". On the frontend it display "required" not "COM_VISFORMS_REQUIRED".

On my localhost, it is fine. I deleted all files on the webstie server and copied the files from localhost to my website. Export and import the database data. I think everything is same except the environment. Maybe the PHP or something. On my localhost, it is PHP 5.4. On my website is PHP 5.2.

I wish it will help you find out the problem.

Thank you so much.

Hi,

your information is really very much appreciated because it helps to narrow down the source of the problem!

There is an option "Debug language" in the global configuration. Could you set it to yes and look if you can find anything helpful in the debug information at the bottom of the page, when you return to the edit form view of visforms.

Could you just copy the administrator/components/com_visforms/languages/en-GB/en-GB.com_visforms.ini from the Visforms 2.0.3 (which seems to work) to the same location of the Visforms 2.1.1 installation on your server and check, if most of the translations (except those which are new to Visforms 2.1.1 and which are only about 20 tags) do work than?

Regards,
Aicha
