Look up table integration - allocating equipment to entrants

I've made truly excellent progress developing quite a complex conditional form for entry to Weymouth Speed Week, all in only a few hours. I am very impressed with Visforms..

I have one requirement that if I could achieve it it would be awesome and it may be relevant to other users. Each person that registers to take part in the event requires a GPS tracker to be allocated to the specific craft type(s) that the person will be sailing in the event. It is not unusual for competitors to sail both sailboards and kiteboards for example, in which case they need two GPS units and to use a specific GPS for each craft type when they sail it.

We have 100 GPS units and they are identified by serial number. This data resides in a database table.

In my "perfect world" when a competitor selects the craft type(s) they will be sailing they would automatically be allocated the next available GPS unit and the serial number would be recorded along with their submitted form data for each craft type they entered the event with..

Is such a requirement in the scope of Visforms?

I'm glad that you can get to grips with Visforms so quickly and easily and work with it so effectively.

Regarding 'allocate the next available GPS unit and the serial number gets recorded along with their submitted form data':
There are 2 possible options to implement this with Visforms.

Option 1 - SQL fields

These and similar requirements are possible with the help of the following features of the subscription.
SQL fields with option lists:

In particular the SQL field type 'selectsql'.

Numerous options in connection with internal and external data tables can thus be implemented.
You may have to think a bit about how it works to see what can be implemented with it.

In detail, some field configuration settings are very important.
In the field configuration, settings such as:
- Make reloadable
- Hide field, if list is empty
- Preselect solitary option
- Reload on change of

The whole SQL field can also be made invisible.
The user then no longer notices this information.

Option 2 - Creation of a Visforms Custom Plugin

One option for developers is to create a custom plugin.
The documentation describes how to create a 'Visforms Custom Plugin':

The developer can then decide for himself what else should happen.
Creating a custom plugin requires some PHP development experience on Joomla.
