IP Address Always the Same

Hi all,

First off, thank you for creating such a great component.

I have noticed that whenever I store the user's IP it's always the same -- it appears to be the IP Address of my Joomla server. Is there a setting in Visforms or Joomla I need to adjust?

Hi Carl,

the IP is taken from the global request variable $SERVER. This is nothing you can or would set in Joomla! or Visforms.

If you are testing on a local system with a local server there is no real remote ip addres and the localhost always uses the same ip address (mostly something like 127.0.0.1).

If you install your Joomla! on a server which is available from "outside" the ip changes, depending on who is asking for the form. So, as far as I know, this behavior is a result of your system environment.

Thank you for your response! The server is available from the outside and users from many different locations are using the form. However, the IP address is always the same (and is not the localhost IP). Could it be a problem in the way our webserver is setup?

I'm not an expert at server administration but actually I think, yes, this is a problem of the webserver setup.
