Checkbox Group Creates extra blank options

Hello,

I really like this plugin as it works really well.

I have installed the 3.2.1 version as I needed Checkbox groups to be available for my forms, along with conditional fields.

When i create checkbox list options an additional (sometimes more than one) checkbox option gets added with no label and no value, but it does show up on the form.

Please help.

Which browser do you use?
Did you update Visforms from a former version or is this a new installation?

I primarily use Chrome, but i have had others view the site with different browers, though I have not had anyone try to modify or change the form with any other browsers.

I did update visforms from 3.1.2 to 3.2.1 as I needed the checkbox group and conditional field options.

obviously your problem starts in the administration, when additional checkbox options with no label and value are added.
Actually there runs some Javascript that should validate that each option has a label and a value, so it is weird, that "empty" options show up.
Do you remember at which point the "empty" option showed up (after adding and saving options with the "add" button or after saving the field).

You could provide me with some further information.
There should be a visforms_update.php in the logs folder of your Joomla! installation. Could you please send me this file to contact@vi-solutions.de

Could you export the visforms and visfield table from your database and send me the sql-file. I would like to check if the database structure is ok.

thanks for the files!

I could figure out what causes the problem and it's actually a bug in Visforms.
Deleting options is not working properly and when you delete an option, there remains a sort of "residue", visible as empty options.
I think it is the result of some changes a made to the javascript code that creates the options, in order to get those headers on top of the option list.
That one is a bit tricky and obviously I missed one use case.

The same problem applies to selects and radios, as they use the same Javascript code to create the options.
I will publish an update of Visforms as soon as I have solved the problem.
After installing the update you will still have to clean the empty options from the fields.
I will figure how to do that, and post it here, after I have published the update.

I'm sorry for your trouble, but that is why Visforms 3.2 is marked as a beta version. You (I) cannot test everything and only the use of the software in different use cases can show those bugs. So thanks for your help.

Hi,

I just released Visforms 3.2.2 (it's available in the download section), which fixes the bug.

Here is an instruction for everybody on how to get rid of the empty options:

After you have updated to that version, it is possible to remove the empty options in the field administration.
Just click on the "Delete" link behind the option and save the field. In some fields there might be even an empty option, that is displayed on the right side of the options header. When you click the delete link of this option and save the field, the deleted option will show up again, this time at the bottom of the option list. Click once again on the delete link and save the field and the empty option is gone.

As long as there are any empty option in any selects, radios and checkbox groups of a form you may see debug warnings and notices in the field configuration of any field. Especially if the error report of your system is to a developer state (which is probable on local XAMPP test systems).
