Lookup from SQL Database for conditional field was created by robinhair
Has anyone successfully used a conditional field to display the result of an SQL lookup from the database? I'm looking to fill a field based on the value in another field.

I'm using Joomla 3.3.6 and the latest visForm beta.

Hi Robin,

you are very creative :)

The idea of the conditional field is, that you create different fields (with different default values) and display the field with the correct default value, depending on the user selection in the controlling field. So the condition does not change the default value but the entire field.

Does that not work for you? Do you need the different values to be in the same field?

This would be a totally different sort of conditional field.
Handling conditional fields is quite complex (the code) and I think, developing a conditional field type of this sort is not so easy.

Hi Aicha,

My thoughts were the user would enter a code in field A, then the corresponding description would be looked up in the database and displayed in field B. Unfortunately there are too many code/description combinations to hardcode the values (hundreds).
