Question about accordion required fields

Question about accordion required fields wurde erstellt von Fdeus
Hello, there again!
I'm buiding a form (just started) and I do love the accordion layout. I encounted a problem which I think, will make my users upset.
Is it possible to block the opening of the 2nd accordion, if the required fields in the first accordion are not filled? The same as it happens in a multi-page layout when you cannot go to 2nd page if the the required fields in the 1st page are not filled.
The reason I'm asking is that when the user finishes the form and tries to submit, in case he/she missed a required field, he will need to open each and every accordion to find out what and where he missed. To me it looks very annoying.
I would be very grateful is you can point the right direction to me.
Thank you in advance!
Best,
Elena

Hello Elena,

You're right, of course.
But unfortunately it doesn't work at the moment.

The accordion layout doesn't come from Visforms, but is generated by the selected UI framework.
In this way, the accordion layout in Visforms forms automatically adapts to the general look and feel of the website.

Visforms supports several UI frameworks.
A general implementation that works with all supported UI frameworks is, at the very least, quite complex.

The multi-page form, on the other hand, is an implementation of Visforms and consists of simple tabs, which are then generated by the selected UI framework.
And these tabs then contain these navigation buttons, which also come from Visforms.
The situation was much simpler here.

Long story short.

I have created an issue for development in the wish list:
Issue [VF-1346] Forum: Form with Accordion Layout: Add required-step-by-step procedure as in multi page form

When we release the new feature, you will be explicitly informed about the release here in the topic.

Until then, you will have to be satisfied with the normal multi-page layout for at least a certain period of time.
At least until we have implemented, tested and released the adjustments for the accordion layout.

Thank you again for your suggestion!

Best regards, Ingmar

Hello Elena,

we have taken a closer look at this new feature.

Point 1: We will not implement it in this way.

Point 2: We will resolve the actual cause of your suggestion in a different way.

On point 1:

The Accorion layout is designed for many fields
- to quickly and easily open and close all form field groups,
- to provide a compact overview of field groups,
- to allow the user to navigate freely,
- ...

The multi-page form, on the other hand, already brings with it the user experience and expectation that the user can often only proceed step by step.
In the multi-page form, on the other hand, in addition to the tabs, there is space and purpose for the corresponding navigation buttons, such as 'Forward' and 'Back'.

And we don't want to ignore this original motivation for the distinction between accordion and multi-page forms in favor of a solution for the findability of incorrect user input.

On point 2:

The reason for your suggestion is the hidden and difficult to find mandatory fields if validation errors occur when trying to submit the form and a message appears about incomplete mandatory fields.

We will improve the findability of the objectionable fields in the case of the accordion layout.
And we will do this in such a way that the objectionable fields are very easy to find.
Development will then show exactly what this will look like.

The issue from above will keep its number and get a different instruction.
Issue [VF-1346] Forum: Accordion Layout: Add easy way off finding invalid and missing mandatory form fields in case of validation errors

I hope this solution is also to your liking.

Best regards, Ingmar
