Update Information for Joomla! Plugin SpambotCheck

Hello everybody,

I've not yet implemented an autoupdate feature for Joomla! plugin spambotCheck. Therefore I will make a short notice in this thread, whenever an update of the plugin is available.

If you are interested to be informed about updates just subscribe to this thread and you get an e-mail notification.

I made an update for the versions for Joomla 2.5 Plugin Verison 1.1. and 3.5 (Plugin Version 1.3.. Updates are available in the download section. You will always get the latest version.

Joomla 2.5
- allow generic e-mail whitelist (which was already availble for Joomla 3.0)
- e-mail whitelist is now a textarea with much more space (which was already availble for Joomla 3.0)
- new parameters to controll admin e-mail notification about spam attacks more specificly
- check cUrl availability during installation (which was already done for Joomla 3.0)
- always include full user information (username, e-mail and ip) when logging spammer to database (some of these informations haven't been stored in previous versions)

You have to unistall the plugin via extension manager and install zu new version. Sorry, that you have to set up your parameters again after installation.

I decided not to update the version for Joomla 1.5 because Joomla 1.5 is no longer supported. This version works still fine but without those improved parameters.

a new release of plugin spambotCheck is available in the download section (you always get the current version there).

You don't need to uninstall the previous version. Just install the new release using your extension manager. All settings will be preservered.

The release has two great improvements

1. All super admins are detected now correctly, regardless of the user group name, according to their permissions. (Previous version only detected super admins if the user group name was "Super Users". In most cases that worked fine but not alwasys.)

2. I have included the joomla updater. So you can use the update functions of the extension manager, to find and install updates, for all future versions.

Hi,

there is a new release of plugin spambotcheck for Joomla! 2.5 (Joomla! 3 will follow soon).

The release has some great new features.

First of all, I included a component.

It will allow you to look at the data logged in the spambot_attemps database and delete them if you want to (or the table grows to much).

Second the component tries to evaluate, if a user, who was able to register or login, is suspicious and might be a spam user. Sometimes spammer find a new leak and the spambot databases are slow to react. Therefore over a short period of time there may be a boost of spam registrations on your website despite of all efforts of plugin spambotcheck. So I tried to provide you with more information and thus make it easier for you to find and ban spam users. There is a "trust" feature too, that allows you to flag users that should allways be trusted (and not checkedk on login). It can supplement the whitelist feature of the plugin and may save you long whitelists.

Third I included a simple blacklist in the plugin. If spam attacks from one "domain" gets to bad you can just bar out this domain for a while.

Since plugin spambotcheck uses Joomla! autoupdater you should be able to update via Joomla! extension manager. If not - you'll get the new version in our Download section.
