I upgraded a site from Joomla 2.5 to 3.5, when I went to install the new version of the visforms extension, it fails I get the following error:

Error

Incompatible version sequence. Minimal version of Visforms for upgrade has to be 2.0.0. Cannot upgrade 1.0.4 to 3.8.19
Error installing component

How do I upgrade this? I didn't see any information on the upgrade page.

Hi,

in the documentation there is an article on what you have to do in order to be able to migrate Visforms with a Joomla! update from 2.5 to 3:

www.vi-solutions.de/en/documentations/vi...omla-2-5-to-joomla-3

In the instructiions it says clearly, that you have to check for the proper Visforms minimum Version on your Joomla! 2.5 installation first before you run the Joomla! Update and update at least to Visforms 2.0.0. "Choose submenu "Manage" and find the entry of component Visforms in the extensions list. Determine the version of Visforms you use. If it's lower than 2.0.0 go to the download menu on our website and download the newest Visforms 2.x version. Install this version (without uninstallaling the previous one!) via Extensions Manager."

Sadly if you have not installed at least Visforms 2.0.0 on the Joomla! 2.5 installation, it is not possible to update Visforms after Joomla! has been created to 3.x. I'm not even sure if you can uninstall Visforms in this case through extension manager. You could try, but if unistalling works this will remove all forms, data....

You have to go back to a backup of your Joomla! 2.5 website and run the required Visforms update first, than, do the Joomla! update again.

I'm sorry for your problems,
Aicha

before I ran the upgrade to Joomla I made sure all the extensions that were installed were upgraded via the update feature in Joomla. then I disabled them for the updates. Unless 1.x didn't automatically upgrade in Joomla 2.5 to the most recent version.

I just tried they did uninstall. It's only one form, so it won't take that long to recreate it's just another PITA in my day.

Hi,

I'm really sorry for your trouble but glad to hear that at least you could uninstall. And that recreating the form will not take too long.

The first Visforms version(s) 1.0.0 to 1.0.4 that run on Joomla! 2.5 did not support update through Joomla! extension manager. That is, why you did not see the update in your update manager.

The Joomla! Update manager was first introduced in Joomla! 1.6 and even when the first Joomla! 2.5 versions very released not many extensions supported the feature. (By the way, to use the update manager in your extension was not so easy and smooth, at that time). Nevertheless, I added that feature really soon with Visforms 2.0.0.

But sadly if somebody had installed a Visforms 1.0.x on their website and did never check on the developer page for updates there was no way for me to give them the information. Therefore I wrote the article with the migration instruction, added it to the Visforms documentation and hoped that people searched for this information before they run a Joomla! 2.5 to 3 update with Visforms (and found it).

Regards,
Aicha
