SMTP errors shown on non-existing email address

Hello friends,
we use a remote SMTP server configured in Joomla to send email. If someone enters a non-existing email address in a form that is configured to send an email to the recipient the user will see a warning with the raw SMTP error from the server. While this helps debugging, I'd like to disable these messsages as they confuse the average website user. I'm pretty sure this is a PHPmailer thing, but I have no idea how to control it from visforms. Joomla error reporting is set to none.

Any hint appreciated!

Hello yellowbird,

just for your information:
It is not possible to configure and influence the PHP mailer from a Visforms setting.

I'm not entirely sure how many roles you have in your form.
However, if the user of the form should enter their own email address, the following field settings are possible for you:
Field configuration, 'Basic Options', 'Check that email exists'.

Quote:
Check that the e-mail address entered in this field does exist.
Visforms will send an e-mail to this address with a code, which has to be entered in the form, before the form can be submitted.

Kind regards, Ingmar

 I recommend you the new and up-to-date documentation for Joomla 4:

Most of this also applies retrospectively to Joomla 3.

Das meiste gilt rückwirkend auch für Joomla 3.
Bitte immer nur 1 Frage pro Thema stellen :-).

Hello Ingmar,

thank you very much for the quick reply!

I was suspecting this.

> user of the form should enter their own email address,

Yes, that' show it's set up.

> Field configuration, 'Basic Options', 'Check that email exists'.

I wasn't aware of this interestininteresting option but unfortunately it does not help here. It sort of makes sending a simple enquiry a double-opt-in setup, which users wil surely not accept.
