Multiple file uploads in Visforms 6.2.1

Hello,We are using Joomla 6.1.4 with Visforms Subscription 6.2.1.We have a Project Information Questionnaire where customers may need to upload 10–15 photographs, drawings or other files. We have enabled drag-and-drop uploading, but when a customer selects a second file, it replaces the first. Is there a way in the current version to allow multiple files in one upload field?I found an older forum discussion suggesting multiple upload fields progressively revealed using JavaScript. Is that still the recommended solution, or is there now a simpler method?Ideally, customers would be able to add several files, see which ones are attached, and remove individual files before submitting the form.Your forum's own attachment system demonstrates some of the functionality we're looking for, although we'd prefer customers not to need a separate "In Message" step.Could you advise us on the best supported approach?Thank you.

Hello UKtrev,

For a variety of reasons, the 1:1 relationship between an upload field and an uploaded file is strictly maintained.
However, starting with Visforms 6.2.0, an enhancement has been added for upload fields that allows you to configure this according to your requirements.

Upload fields now include an option to select other upload fields within a "Conditional Field" list:
Field Configuration >> "Basic Settings" tab >> "Dynamic Settings" group >> "Conditional Field" list.

This parameter makes it possible to display a new upload field once a previous one has been populated.
The total number of upload fields in the form effectively sets the maximum limit for the number of file uploads.

Documentation for this feature is not yet available.
Until the documentation is complete, please refer to:
- the descriptive inline help,
- and, as always, the forum if you have any further questions.

Note:
You can link a subsequent upload field to the preceding one as follows:
In the "Conditional Field" list for the subsequent upload field, select the preceding upload field with its condition to "not empty."

Kind regards, Ingmar

Hello Ingmar,

Thank you for explaining the new conditional upload feature. We have now tested it with three upload fields in Visforms 6.2.2 on Joomla 6.1.4.

We have discovered what appears to be a problem with the way conditional upload fields respond to file selection.

**When using the green “Or choose a file” button:**

- Windows File Explorer opens normally.
- We select a photograph, and its filename appears in the upload field.
- However, the next conditional upload field does not appear.
- If we select another photograph in the same field, replacing the first, the next upload field then appears.

**When dragging files from a separately opened Windows File Explorer window:**

- We open Windows File Explorer independently of the Visforms questionnaire.
- We position and resize the Explorer window so that both it and the questionnaire are visible.
- We drag a photograph directly from Explorer into the first upload field's drag-and-drop area.
- Upload 2 immediately appears.
- We then drag a second photograph from Explorer into Upload 2, and Upload 3 immediately appears.

**Importantly, we do not click the upload field or its file-selection button during this successful test.** We drag files directly from an independently opened Explorer window.

Each subsequent field is configured with the preceding upload field set to **Not Empty**, as you instructed.

This suggests that selecting a file through the file-picker button is not immediately triggering the conditional field update, whereas dragging a file directly from an independently opened Explorer window does.

Could you please investigate whether this is a bug or whether there is another setting we need to change?

We would like customers to be able to upload 10–15 files, and many will naturally use the file-picker button rather than drag and drop.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Kind regards,

Trevor

Hello Trevor,

We consider this a bug in Visforms up to currently released version 6.2.2 and we will adjust the behavior for the next bug-fix version 6.2.3.
I have created the following development issue in the bug list:
Issue [VF-1859] Forum: Conditional Upload Field: Selecting a file through the file-picker button is not immediately triggering the conditional field update

When we release the bug fix, you will be explicitly informed about the release here in the topic.
There will also be a file-based hot fix for version 6.2.2 for this bug in the very short term.
Thank you again for your report.

Kind regard, Ingmar

Hello Trevor,

There is a hotfix to resolve the error for:
Joomla 6 and the current Visforms version 6.

Please back up the old file first in case unexpected problems arise.

Download the following file:
- vi-solutions.de/forum-bugfixes/visforms.js_6.2.2.txt
Rename the downloaded file to
- visforms.js
Using the downloaded and renamed file, overwrite the following file on the server:
- media/com_visforms/js/visforms.js

Kind regard, Ingmar

Hello Ingmar,

Thank you again for providing the VF-1859 hotfix for Visforms 6.2.2.

The hotfix successfully resolved the conditional file upload problem on our **Project Information Questionnaire**, where ten upload fields now work correctly. Selecting a photograph automatically reveals the next upload field.

However, we have encountered the same problem on our second form, **General Enquiry**.

We have configured five file upload fields using the same conditional settings as the working questionnaire:

- Field 1: Photographs and Drawings (ID 28), with no condition.
- Field 2: Upload Another Photograph or File (2) (ID 40), conditional on Field 1 being Not Empty.
- Fields 3–5: Each conditional on the preceding upload field being Not Empty.

All fields are published, and Drag & Drop Upload is enabled.

**The problem:** The first upload field accepts photographs correctly, but selecting a photograph never reveals the second field.

We have checked the conditional settings and confirmed that both forms load the same Visforms JavaScript files, including `visforms.js`, `visforms-conditional-events.js`, and `visforms-upload.js`. All return HTTP 200, with browser caching disabled.

We also created a completely new first upload field and temporarily linked Field 2 to it. This produced exactly the same problem, so the issue does not appear to be caused by the original upload field.

The temporary test field has now been unpublished and the original conditional settings restored.

Could you please advise why the conditional uploads work correctly on one form but not the other, despite both using the same Visforms installation and JavaScript files?

We are using Joomla 6.1.4 and Visforms 6.2.2 with your VF-1859 hotfix installed.

Many thanks for your continued assistance.
