drag and drop for file upload?

drag and drop for file upload? was created by dascher
I couldn't find any mention in this forum of a drag and drop feature for a file upload field - so here it is. Is there a way to do this rather than use the "Choose File" button? It seems like this kind of thing has been around long enough that it has become a pretty standard way to select a file. It doesn't look terribly difficult to implement on one's own - and it shouldn't impact any of the security features that Vis-Forms already has.

I'm hoping that your response will be that this feature will be in the next release appearing tomorrow...

Hello dasher,

I basically agree with your assessment.
I even created a wish list development issue for this.
However, only with a rather low priority and not explicitly addressed for the forum.

I have now changed both and the issue now reads as follows:
Issue [VF-769] Forum: Upload Field: UI: Add Drag&Drop possibility for local files

When we release the new feature, you will be explicitly informed about the release here in the topic.

Just for your information:
It's a bit more work than you described above.
We render visforms quite differently depending on the chosen UI framework.
For each of the supported UI frameworks and sub-layouts, the new feature needs to be implemented/adapted and also well tested.

Thank you again for your great suggestion!

Kind regards, Ingmar

Hello dasher,

The new feature is included in the latest release for Joomla 6 (June 29, 2026):
Visforms 6.2.0
docs.joomla-6.visforms.vi-solutions.de/u...es/j6/version-6-2-x/
Visforms Subscription 6.2.0
docs.joomla-6.visforms.vi-solutions.de/u...6/sub-version-6-2-x/

A new parameter is now available for upload fields to configure this requirement:
Upload Field >> Field Configuration >> 'Basic Settings' tab >> 'Display Settings' group >> 'Drag & Drop Upload' parameter.
This allows users to add a local file for upload to the form using drag-and-drop.

Documentation for this feature is not yet available.
Until the documentation is complete, please use:
- the informative inline help,
- and the forum, as usual.

Note:

We use 'Canary Releases' for Visforms updates.
This means the current version is made available to an increasingly large group in stages.
Consequently, the latest release might not yet be available in your Joomla Update Manager.

However, all current updates are also available for download directly from our website.
This allows you to manually update to the latest version at any time, even if your turn hasn't officially come up yet.

Best regards, Ingmar
