I assume if the value returned by SQL is empty/null visforms will just throw an error if the form is submitted?

The server site validation checks, if the value, submitted with the form, equals the value which is expected from the sql-Statement (taking into account the value of all data submitted with the form)..
If the submitted value and the expected value du no match, then the submit process is stopped and the form is redisplayed with an error message.

In the previous version, this server site validation was not performed, if the submitted value was empty.
This is, why the invalide empty values where not detected.

We use canary releases for Visforms updates. This allows the latest version to be made available to an increasingly large group of users in stages. It's therefore quite possible that a current release isn't yet available for your Joomla update manager.

However, all current updates are still available for download on our website. This allows you to manually update to the latest version at any time, even if it's not officially your turn yet.
