Could not instatiate mail function

I have attempted to add a Visforms contact form to my Joomla 2.5 website, but whenever I press the submit key, I get the error message 'Could not instantiate mail function'. I actually get this twice, presumably once for sending me the form data and once for sending the acknoledgement email.

I have tried adjusting the Mail option in the form configuaration and have also tried altering the Global Congiguration mail settings, but so far nothing works.

Can you help, please?

does the mailer work in other components which sends mails? (I.e. the registration via frontend.)

Usually this message means, that you have no mailer installed/set up on the server (i.e. when you test on a local xampp...) and it has nothing to do with Visforms itself.

Which Visforms and Joomla! versions do you use?

I an using Joomla 2.5.17 and Visforms 2.0.1.

I don't have any other function on my site that uses the mailer, so you could be right.
