Moving Form Between Joomla Sites

Moving Form Between Joomla Sites was created by Louw
Just a quick question and I couldn't see it in the documentation. Is it possible to export a Visform form from one Joomla installation to another? I've created a large form with many conditional fields so I don't want to recreate it from scratch on the new site.

Thanks and have a great day.

Hi,

you are correct, that the documentation does not state anything about this but I'm sure I have answered the questing here in the forum more than once

There are no tools to move forms between Joomla! installations.
This is due to the way Joomla! always stores extension related information in Joomla core tables (ACL settings in the assets table). And due to the fact that I have made a lot of modifications to the database (Visforms tables) throughout the time, so that it is probable that one form cannot be moved properly to another site or will not work properly on another site.

But if you are familiar with using a mysql tool (phpMyAdmin) you could try to export the #__visforms and #__visfields table from one Joomla Database and import it into the other.
You have to make sure that Joomla! and Visforms installations have identical versions on both sites.
You have to make sure, that the #_visforms and #__visfields tables are completely empty on the receiving site.
I would include the "drop table" and "create table" statements in the export configuration of phpMyAdmin.

After the import you have to open each form and each field in the administration on the receiving site and click the save button. This will add the reocrd sets in the Joomla! core tables (#_assets).

Be very careful when you try this and make sure you have a backup of the receiving website before your start because if you make a mistake you can really harm your website.

Regards,
Aicha

 I recommend you the new and up-to-date documentation for Joomla 4:
docs.joomla-5.visforms.vi-solutions.de/en/docs/
Most of this also applies retrospectively to Joomla 3.
Please only ask 1 question per topic :-).

Thanks for the advice and I'm sorry for not finding the answer in the forum :)

Think I wil rather recreate it on the new installation than risk something going wrong.

Much appreciated and have a great day.
