Update sites can not be reached

I contacted our provider and received the following helpful response.

About a week ago, attacks originated from the IP address 185.41.124.157, for example, on xmlrpc.php.
Therefore, it ended up on blacklists and was blocked by our data center.
Since there have been no new anomalies in the last few days, this has since been lifted.

So the IP was indeed blocked by our provider.
The reason for the block is understandable and more than reasonable.
This risk of being affected without fault always exists, at least when a hosting package doesn't include a truly individual IP address.

I'm glad the situation has now been clarified.
I assume that other providers, possibly including Google, have also implemented similar blocking measures and have since lifted them.

Conclusion:

If your server IP is blocked in the future, you can always perform the update manually.
